CD Poker Review

CD Poker LogoCD Poker is one of the largest of all sites on the iPoker Network. After constantly hearing about them all the time I decided to check the site out and give it a spin.

I downloaded the software which was pretty standard and didn’t take too long to finish. I have to admit that the name always bothered me a little because every time I thought “CD Poker” I would think “Seedy Poker” meaning “Somewhat disreputable poker”. I guess this was just my mind playing tricks on me as they have been around since 2003 without any complaints that I am aware of. Anyway, I was attracted by their awesome sign-up bonus so I decided to give it a try.

Since they are part of the iPoker Network there was a ton of action at the tables. Most of the cash tables were busy from low stakes all the way up to about 25/50 NL. The action on the site is primarily on the Holdem tables though, as I found other than Pot Limit Omaha (PLO), the other games were somewhat of a ghost town with only a handful of tables running. The PLO tables had quite a few tables going, but it was nothing compared to sites like PokerStars.com. I am sure this will probably change soon though as PLO is growing with popularity and right now there is a ton of fish at these tables.

One thing that caught my immediate attention about the site was their “Beginners’ Tables” section. Is this just calling out to all the poker sharks or what! I watched a couple of the games and saw some of the dumbest poker playing I have ever seen so I would say that there is a huge fish factor on this site.

Some of the things I didn’t like about the site (other than the name of course) were the software and as I kind of mentioned the PLO traffic. Over the past little while I have started playing way more PLO then Texas Holdem. So, if you love Texas Holdem then this is the site for you, but if you are looking for a site with really good PLO action, I’d probably say you are better off at PokerStars. As for the software, it is pretty basic and looks somewhat dated. It’s really not a big deal, but I am big on graphics and it doesn’t have that 2008 type feel to it just yet. More like a 2006 poker site. Fortunately it does have some good features so it’s not as bad as I am probably making it out to be.

Overall CD Poker is definitely up there as one of the better sites to play Texas Holdem. They have some huge prize pool tournaments, amazing bonuses and great traffic volumes. If the tables in some of the non-Texas Holdem games start to fill a little more this will definitely be a huge competitor for sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.

Player Competition

CD Poker attracts a ton of bad players with their huge deposit bonuses and lucrative freerolls. The players on the network are pretty bad overall, making this one of the easiest of the bigger online poker sites.

CD Poker.com Software

As mentioned above the software at CD Poker is okay. It is nothing to really blow your socks off, but it does the job. It is better than most of the other sites, but still lacks some of the cool features that sites like PokerStars have. Regardless, it still is very easy to use and should do almost everything you want it to do.

One of the nice things about the software is it is available in: English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish, Swedish, Danish and Turkish. This means that you will have players from all across Europe as well as other parts of the world at your table.

If you are looking to multi-table, you won’t have a problem doing so at CD Poker. You can play up to 16 tables at the same time without any issue.

The main reason I think the software is pretty standard is the graphics. It does have a little bit of a dated look, but for most people this really isn’t an issue and I am sure this will probably be changed within the near future.
