Review of Chan Poker
Johnny Chan (One of the
greatest all-time poker players) has finally launched his own site. This project has been in the
works for well over a year now, and has finally completed just a few weeks ago. Since this is being backed by
one of the greatest poker players, I had to see what it was all about and so I downloaded their software on August
27th, 2007 and do my own
chan poker review.
They are aggressively trying to attract new players (being the newest poker site) and have decided to offer some great
bonuses (up to $1000). I went through the process of downloading the software (even though I didn't really have to
because they have a no-download version of their poker software), and was completed in under 5 minutes.
One of the things I did not like about the home page, was the lack of information. I understand this is a new site,
and I am sure they will be continuously adding more content, but I think much of this should have been up before
the official launch.
One of the biggest things they are pushing with this site is you get to play against Johnny Chan himself. Sure he will
probably play at many of the tables, but you will probably have to wait forever to get a seat, unless you are lucky
enough to have him sit at your table. I am sure Johnny will also be quite visible on the high stakes tables, which is
a definite plus for all the railbirds out there. Here is an example of one of their ads promoting this:
Chan Poker Software
First, I will give a little background about the poker software. The site itself runs on the Ongame Network,
which is one of the largest poker networks (home to such sites as PokerRoom, Betsson,
Hollywood Poker, Eurobet, as well as many more). Since
it is part of such a large network, this means that security is at its highest, traffic is really good (meaning
you will always find a game) and
a large number of great features.
The software is friendly to many
PC platforms including
Macintosh, for all you Mac Poker
Players out there. Also,
if you hate Windows and
Macintosh and are running a
Linux box, it will even work for
you on that (Trust me, there are
very few Linux friendly poker
sites out there)!
The game area itself offers a
nice clean look, with most of
required features. One
thing that it did not have were
pre-flop %, which some players
like to see.
See above for some screenshots of their
software (the lobby and game play):
If you have ever played at Poker
Room, Hollywood Poker or any of
the other OnGame Network sites,
you will recognize this view
below. One of the obvious
differences is they have a
special Johnny Chan character on
the tables.
Also, there is a no-download
java based version which looks
identical to the full download
version. It runs in your
web browser. Here is a
screenshot:

Review Conclusion of
Chan Poker
In conclusion, here are some of
the advantages vs. disadvantages
of Chan Poker:
Advantages
- No-download Java version -
this is great for people running
Non-Windows Operating Systems
such as Mac or Linux
- Huge sign-up Bonus - Not many
sites give players $1000 just to
sign up!
- Play with Johnny Chan - Chan
plays here, so you will be able
to watch him play, and chat to
him on the rail.
- Fast visually appealing
software - Nice clean looks,
coupled with great speed ensures
a smooth game.
- Attracts novice players
meaning the competition won't be
as difficult as other sites.

If you want a great software for
multi-tabling check out
