Over the past few days the poker forums of the internet have been very active discussing the potential security breaches that have occured at Absolute Poker. 

At first I figured it was just another disgruntled player that was not happy about the results in the tournament.  My original stance in our first Absolute Poker is Rigged post was to reccommend to players that if they were concerned they should find another site to play at.

Unfortunately due to the additional information that has been leaked and verified by reliable sources my stance on the issue has changed I reccommend for players at Absolute Poker to be on extreme high alert for suspicious activity, and personally if it was me, I would find another place to play.

What happened?

On October 13th, well known Pocket 5s member and well known poker player, Jared “TheWacoKidd” Gamby made a post on PocketFives.com.  Jared posted that after CrazyMarco lost heads-up to POTRIPPER in the $1,000 tournament and questioning some foul play, he requested a copy of his hand histories from Absolute Poker.  Instead of sending him his own hand histories, Absolute Poker sent him a copy of every players’ hand history INCLUDING their hole cards, from the entire tournament.  Not only is this a HUGE security breach as it gives Marco an advantage as he can study how these players play, but it also shows some extremely questionable play by the one player that he first suspected of cheating, POTRIPPER.  To top it off, this report allegedly included the IP addresses and user account IDs of all players in the tournament, including those on the rail.

On October 14th, TheWacoKidd discovered some more information from the file that was received by CrazyMarco.  They decided to do a little investigation on the IP addresses of those involved in the incident.  Here is what he found:

“1. This guy “enters” table 13 at 2007-09-12 21:02:14, which is 2 minutes and 14 seconds after the tourney started.
2. Table 13 is the table which POTRIPPER was playing on
3. He never leaves the table, which means he was observing the table until at least 11:20 PM EST (at least, that’s how I understand this)
4. His IP address is based in Costa Rica.
5. This is the most damning. He is user id 363 at AP. That means he was created in the system very very early on. Most of these user ids are in the 6 or 7 figures.”

This appears to show that POTRIPPER’s account is not a super-user account like everyone had thought, but whoever belongs to the 363 player ID account has the ability to see other player’s hole cards.

Absolute Poker posted their response on 2+2, but it doesn’t seem to be enough for most players out there that have already made up their minds. 

In the meantime I will be removing all Absolute Poker links from the site (or forwarding them to another site) until there is proof that there is some form of criminal investigation being conducted.  I am still trying to decide what to do with Ultimate Bet because they are connected to Absolute Poker.
