Daniel Negreanu Nominated for the Poker Hall of Fame 2010

A few days ago Harrah’s announced the ten nominees for the Poker Hall of Fame’s Class of 2010. Officials at the Poker Hall of Fame have specific criteria that they use to select poker players to be nominees. The list of ten player names is then sent for evaluation to the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council, who will decide who on the list is not eligible for nomination.

Daniel Negreanu was one among the poker players nominated for the Poker Hall of Fame, and it remains to be seen whether his name will stay on the list. Although Daniel Negreanu is a great poker player and is very popular with the crowds, his recent outburst at Annie Duke has left him in a very poor light.

To be on the list of nominees for the Poker Hall of Fame, officials require players to meet certain requirements, four in all. According to the Poker Hall of Fame’s rules, “A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition; played for high stakes; played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers; stood the test of time; or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.”

Although it can be said that Daniel Negreanu meets most of those criteria, he may end up being disqualified if officials feel that it just would not do to reward a player who has insulted another reputed poker professional in one of the worst ways possible.

This year, Jennifer Harman and Linda Johnson, two female poker players are up for nomination and Andrew Feldman, one of the judges on the deciding panel had this to say, “The nominees this year show the amazing diversity that we have in the industry and there are definitely some names that stick out above the rest. Every player on the list will definitely deserve some credit.” Other players are Barry Greenstein, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Erik Seidel, Dan Harrington, Scotty Nguyen and Tom McEvoy.
