G4′s 2 Million in 2 Months…..

So there appears to be a lot of poker programming coming up.  Some of it looks well thought out, and is sure to be well received.  Some looks half cocked, and like some exec just realized “this poker thing is gonna be really big, we should get on that bandwagon!”

I’m not sure which way 2 Months, $2 Million is going to go.   The premise is fairly simple, they have collected 4 online pro’s (Jason “pr1nnyraidRosenkrantz, Brian “Flawless_Victory” Roberts, Emil “whitelime” Patel, and Dani “Ansky” Stern) to put their own money on the line in an effort to turn that seed money into 2 million bucks.  Great idea, but i would imagine that there will be a lot of road blocks put in their way due to so many varying circumstances.  First, they are fairly well known online players, and during an interview with poker news daily, Emil Patel described how difficult it was to get a game in the first week of filming.   “One of the problems we had was that we are so well-known. I would estimate that 15 people would be sitting alone at heads-up tables online and only one of them would want to play us.”

The second is variance and consistency of play.  Of course these players are no slouches, with each of them highly regarded in one way or another (Dani “Ansky” Stern final tabled the competitive Pokerstars Super Tuesday in March and won the $30,000 Super Turbo Guaranteed in April. The two finishes were worth a combined $22,000. Patel nearly made the final table of a $5,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Six-Handed contest during the 2007 WSOP, landing in eighth place for $83,000 in an event ultimately won by Bill Edler) but when splitting a goal 4 ways, you’re bound to run into problems and someone is bound to have a bad week.  And with only a short period of time to make your millions (literally), you just don’t have time for that.

I know I’ll be tuning into G4 on the 16th for the first episode…it remains to be seen if I’ll stick around for the whole 2 million, or if one episode will satisfy me.  Will You Be Watching?
