I loves me some chicks who can play poker! And so, apparently, does Pokerstars. They have signed up to become the official sponsor of the High Heels Poker Tour (HHPT). The all women even was started in 2007 to encourage women who wanted to test their skills against like minded women. Founder Lauren Failla states that her vision for the HHPT Is “to give women of all ages the opportunity to expand their skills at the poker table and provide a venue for nurturing the next top female poker player.”
Since it’s start it has been doing just that, helping to shine the spotlight on female players, and highlighting their achievements on their official page. The recent sponsorship from Pokerstars should expand the influence that these ladies are already building!
Of the sponsorship deal, Lauren Failla said “PokerStars has all the attributes in an online partner that female players crave: an incredible variety of quick, entertaining games that range from low buy-in sit and goes and cash games to serious tournament play, all in an environment where women can learn the game, develop their skills and truly become champions.”
While they don’t have the likes of Erica Schoenberg or Jennifer Tilly (although I’m sure both would do very well in this), the addition of the Pokerstar pro’s to the fold of the HHPT is also of great benefit. It gives the women poker role models to look up to, and most of the time they all got their start in a similar fashion!
Among their many events this year, the HHPT caps off with a grand finale $1,000 buy-in ladies event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2010.
