Oboodi Emerges WPT Bogarta Champion
The World Poker Tour (WPT) Bogarta Poker Open Championship Event broke all records by attracting a huge base of 1,313 participants and generating a massive prize pool of $4,332,900. The number of poker enthusiasts at the 17-day-long Bogarta broke all previous records with 1,718 poker players participating in the first event, a 30 percent rise in attendance since 2009.
Bogarta Director (poker operations) Stan Strickland expressed his satisfaction about the turn of events and said that he considers it remarkable that the Bogarta not only met, but also exceeded its $3 million guarantee by more than $1.3 million. Stating that the turnout has been impressive, he said that the attendance and the participation just testify to the uniqueness and quality of the Bogarta event.
The final table of the WPT Bogarta had two poker players who qualified through satellites, a player who had won the prestigious World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet, and three regular Bogarta players. The last man standing turned out to be Bobby Oboodi who took home a breathtakingly large prize of $922,441.
Speaking about his experience, the winner said that he is “numb,” adding that he has just not started feeling excited yet. Stating that he feels everybody else is more excited that he ought to be, he said that he is sure to realize the significance of the win later when he finally understands that he has won nearly a million dollars.
Jin Hwang, a poker player from Maryland, who was beaten by Oboodi hadn’t believed that he would reach the final table of the Bogarts. In fact, he had checked out on the fourth day just before the tournament recommenced with 27 participants.
An overwhelmed Hwang, who won $554,303, says that he is proud of himself, totally satisfied with his performance, and ready for the next one.
