Online Poker – Cereus Business
Some silly rumor was floated around over the last 48 hours about the demise of the Cereus Poker merger of Absolute and Ultimate Bet. It wound up being pretty much blown out of the water but it does make for an interesting conversation – Is consolidation the best thing for the online poker business?
Rough math figures that a few million dollars in rake is generated every DAY in the online poker world. Big bucks for sure. And just like in the brick and mortar world, some players enjoy playing rooms that are off the beaten path and some prefer playing the larger rooms. With the economy rocking in the US and Europe and the tricky legal landscape that US facing poker room operators face, some are taking the Cereus route and merging. Others are likely to stand on their own for some time.
Here’s something to chew on. If the US ever paved the way for legal online gambling and Google decided to jump into the fray, would everyone play there? What if Microsoft decided to play ball? You already know the known gambling brands such as MGM, Wynn, Boyd Gaming, etc would certainly be players as well. How would the little guys compete? It’s all speculation right now but with the amount of potential revenue on the line it could be a real scenario one day.
So where do you stand? Would you stick with Full Tilt Poker or would it even be considered “cool” to play “Google Poker”?
