Poker Flip Flop for GSN and Fox Sports

This is what I came up with when I went to search for an image of Fox Sports

After GSN refused to renew their contract with the WPT, the top brass at the World Poker Tour had to scramble to find a new home for their events to be televised. They did find a suitor some seven weeks after GSN bailed with Fox Sports. Fast forward to this week when GSN announced that they’re moving their broadcast of “High Stakes Poker” to Sunday nights airing at 7:00 PM EST.

Not to be outdone, Fox Sports has announced that they will broadcast their episodes of The World Poker Tour on Sunday nights at 8:00 PM EST. Pissing match? Yes. But the issue here is that unless you they have Tivo, poker playing fans of the shows will suffer. I understand that these are big companies and poker is big business but it’s pretty clear to most that this is a petty battle between the two networks.

The more interesting aspect of this will be who the ultimate winner is. With the WPT failing to get the ratings that their earlier seasons have garnered, the High Stakes Poker show on GSN may prove to be the bigger baler of the two. In truth, I’d rather watch known pros play with their own large bankrolls than watch some farmer who won his way to a main event at the WPT via a free roll on Poker Stars.

I personally like watching known stars but sometimes watching some poor guy win it all is very entertaining.
