PokerStars.com has launched PokerStars.net, a poker gaming application on Facebook. Since it is still in its limited beta form, players cannot find it in the Facebook app store at present.
While the app has several features common to social gaming apps, it stands in a class of its own because it has a number of unique PokerStars features. The list of common features includes levels, achievements, experience points, challenges, virtual items, and leader boards. The app includes an in-built store, where players can purchase extra gold coins, play money chips, virtual gifts, and accessories, which they can choose to display near their avatars. The app also allows players to add their Facebook friends and exchange play chips and virtual gifts with them.
The app also gives poker players the authentic PokerStars.com experience because it includes Zoom Poker, a wide range of cash poker games, and poker tournaments. Players who have accounts at PokerStars.com can use their passwords and usernames to log into PokerStars.net on Facebook.
Eric Hollreiser, the corporate communications head at PokerStars , told Pokerfuse that the online poker room is launching its new social gaming product in beta because it wants to test it and make sure that it meets PokerStars’ top standards. Stating that the beta testing has just begun, he said that the product still needs a lot of tweaking.
According to Hollreiser, PokerStars’ move to launch a social gaming product is part of its “ongoing research and development efforts.”
Pokerfuse had published a new report in November last year, stating that PokerStars is currently working on a social gaming product, which it intends to launch at the earliest possible. But PokerStars had not confirmed the news at that time.
PokerStars is all set to compete with Zynga Poker, an established social gaming giant, by expanding into the social gaming sector.
