Online Poker Friendly US Senators

The PPA just released a new list ranking US Senators based on their public voting record and comments made in regards to gambling. With only 13 Senators scoring an A+ it would seem online gamblers in the US have a little to worry about. Especially considering there are a few hundred of these politicos running around, deciding what’s good for us and what’s bad.

A few Senators did well with poker-friendly A ratings like Barbara Lee from California and Dr. Ron Paul from Texas (shown on left). Others flunked miserably like John Boozman from Arkansas and Dan Lundgren from California.

According to Senator Alfonse D’Amato, the Chairman of the PPA:

“In most cases, grades are based on co-sponsorship of bills, Congressional letters of support, public statements and private meetings with the PPA and our members due to the lack of full votes by either the House or Senate. For example, there has been very little action in the U.S. Senate on our issue since the UIGEA became law and therefore many Senators have not staked a position.  In the U.S. House, there have been two votes in the Financial Services Committee, but the full House has not voted on our pro-poker bills.  Grades are not permanent and this guide will be updated periodically.  Our goal is for all Members of Congress to score a grade of A or better.”

You do have to wonder though just how many of these Senators have played cards or rolled the dice in a casino. After all, they gamble with their constituents’ lives every time they vote, right?

Check how your senator ranks, and remember this next time you go to the polls!
